Have you ever NOT tipped a waiter/waitress?

Rainy Weather and that one customer that makes your day.

Now I know people will go out to eat. But when you are under a TORNADO WATCH, why would you risk it?

Even if you did, which is up to you. Remember the staff had to risk their lives just like you did to get there. So go easy on them.

I had one particular group of customers, that complained about everything to due with their order. First we were super busy and the cook (Manager) was stuck putting up our weekly delivery, so the waitstaff had to cook their own food. So it took time to get the orders out.
Second the floors were wet, HELLO IT WAS RAINING OUTSIDE, do you really expect the floors to be perfectly dry?
Next they felt because their food did not come out fast, they should get it for free. WHY? Did they not see the restaurant completely filled and the waiter/waitresses running around trying to take care of everybody as they came in?
When it was all said and done, they grudgingly paid their bill, and said they left the tip on the table. I apologized for the food taking so long to get out, and for the wet floors due to inclement weather and went to bus their table. The tip they left was this:

They took every napkin from the dispenser and poured Tabasco, as well as steak sauce, ketsup, and Worchesire sauce (we keep the condiments on the tables at all times) all over them, the salt and pepper shaker were opened and poured all over the table, the sugar shaker was the same way. Underneath all that, they left a penny.
I would expect this from a bunch of kids (to a point), but grown adults should know better. I was so pissed off it affected my next table, who saw all the mess they left.
They had the same complaints, but when they left, they tipped me $50.00 on a credit card. (their bill was only about $3) All they had was coffee to try and wait out the rain.

  1. Some tables are a godsend. Your place sounds a bit like mine with the jobs crossing over. I often play bartender for my tables, and have learned to cook many of the menu items "just in case".

  4. Wow, that's an awesome tip. Hopefully it made up a little bit for the manchildren at the other table.
